Pictures and Update!

Zoey has done really well over the past week. On Tuesday we went to her Pediatrician and she weighed 8 lbs 3 oz! She is starting to gain weight! Yeah! On Wednesday we went back up to Primarys for her follow up visit. They said she was doing great and they were happy with her weight gain. They said that I didn't have to wake her up every 3 hours anymore to eat!!! THANK HEAVENS!!! That was getting old, and I wasn't even waking up to my alarm anymore. Zoey would wake up to the alarm before I would and then she would cry and I would wake up to her crying. So everyone here is getting a much better nights rest now. She usually goes about 4 hours inbetween feedings and sometimes she will even go 5 hours! Yahoo! They also told me I could start trying to nurse her every other feeding. There are some restrictions that go along with nursing her though. First off, she obviously still needs to gain weight. Secondly, she needs to still drink from a bottle since she will be going back up to the hospital for another surgery when she is 5-7 months old. Zoey hasn't shown much interest in nursing though. Has anyone tried to teach a 1 month old to nurse? Any suggestions? I know I just need to be patient, I am just not very good at being patient.

Wednesday night we went to Kiddie Kandids in South Towne Mall and got pictures taken! I love them!

I LOVE the pictures! I know sometimes when people need to teach a baby to use a bottle they put sugar on it. Maybe that would work? I'm not sure. I'm so glad that she is doing well! I thought your comment on my blog was hillarious! I will be back in town next week and would love to see you all!

You guys look GREAT! And as always, Zoey is absolutely beautiful. Definitely get in touch with a lactation consultant. My baby had a really hard time nursing also, but once I got help, it went wonderfully. I have the # of a wonderful lady if you want it. She is SO SO passionate about helping and will come to your house for free to help. Anyway, congrats on your cute little family, you all look great!

Beautiful Family! So I realized that I forgot to tell you something...we are headed to SL for Marc's bro's wedding on the 15th. I would love to come visit! Also, sorry bout the nursing cover, we have been traveling like mad people lately and just didn't get it...maybe I will remember to bring it down with me. :o)

That first picture of Zoe is just a pink fluffy cloud of darlingness. I'm so happy she is doing so well and you can all get more sleep now. A lactation consultant is a great suggestion and I would also recommend that. Good luck.

I love the photos, so cute!

I didn't get to start trying to nurse Jacob until he was two weeks old. One thing that totally helped us was getting the Pediatrician office to order a baby scale from Home Health. Insurance wouldn't cover the costs but it was only $56 a month. The scale measures by ounces so you weigh right before and after each feeding so you get an accurate reading of how much she is really eating for each feed. Doing that with Jacob helped us to know how much to give him through the feeding tube (or bottle) and to make sure he was putting on weight. We only needed the scale for a month before he had nursing all figured out.

Good luck!

What perfect pictures! I love them! I heard that it is trickier to nurse a baby once it has had the bottle, but not impossible. Most kids just like the bottle because it is less work for them. Make sure she is hungry enough to be motivated, but not too hungry where she gets frustrated and ticked off:) I will drop off that nipple that atttaches to the bottle and allows you to feed some formula at the same time as nursing. I have always had it stored, but maybe you can put it to use. My babies could go a week without being fed and still be huge:)
